The Cameron Fence Company is a multi-generational
family-owned company that was launched from humble beginnings.
In the mid 1930’s, a young street
car conductor named John Cameron lost his job. Living
near the Indianapolis Airport, he set off on foot to
look for a job as a concrete runway installer, and was
pointed in the direction of a fence crew across the
way. With no experience, he was hired on the spot. Within
a year he was running his own crew.
John’s son Grover “Russ”
Cameron joined him to tackle the largest jobs in Missouri
and Oklahoma. After World War II, John and Grover formed
the West Side Fence Company in Indianapolis. One of
their largest contracts was the Wright-Patterson Air
Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.
Russ took over the business after
John Cameron passed away in 1960. Russ bought an interest
in Fen-Guard Corporation, a well-regarded state highway
fence and guardrail contractor based in Ft. Wayne. Russ’s
son Bill, who had been working in Fen-Guard’s
residential/commercial division, moved back to Indianapolis
in 1987 to work for the Hoosier Company. Bill later
started Cameron Fence Company in Zionsville, Indiana.
As history repeats itself, Bill’s
son Russ has come along to develop the future of Cameron
Fence Company. We are proud of our heritage in this
business, and we welcome generation five or six! |
